The importance of Hot and Cold Therapy on wounds

Have you ever wondered if applying hot or cold therapy on a surgical wound is best? What if we told you both!

There are several different forms to deliver hot and cold therapies to the body, both through local applications and body immersion.

Ice/Heat Packs are an easy and quick way to provide much needed relief to surgical wounds during post-abdominal surgery recovery. Not only are they an effective tool to help reduce swelling, it can help reduce pain and discomfort around a wound.

The use of cold therapy can reduce inflammation around a wound by decreasing the blood flow. On the other hand, heat therapy works by improving circulation and blood flow to a particular area to soothe discomfort and increase muscle flexibility.

Ice/Heat Packs can be used for a number of reasons, such as:

  • Postpartum tearing
  • Caesarean section wounds
  • Surgical wounds
